 80th Independence Day Celebration

                                         

          Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya, Port Mout, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India on 15th August 2026 with great enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and a deep sense of pride in the nation. The celebration was organised on the school premises and witnessed the active participation of students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff.

The programme commenced early in the morning with the arrival of students at 6:10 a.m. The students enthusiastically participated in a Prabhat Pheri, walking around the locality while raising patriotic slogans. The lively procession created an atmosphere of national pride and reminded everyone of the spirit of freedom, unity and patriotism that defines the country.

The main programme began with the soulful rendition of the National Song, “Vande Mataram.” The Chief Guest, Shri Prakash Adhikari, Chairman Education & Social Justice Committee, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, and Chairman, Guptara Constituency, was warmly welcomed on the occasion. The National Flag was then hoisted by the Chief Guest along with the Principal, Smt. B. Latha, followed by the singing of the National Anthem by the entire gathering. The flag-hoisting ceremony evoked a strong sense of patriotism and respect for the nation.

The welcome address was delivered by the Principal, Smt. B. Latha. In her address, she highlighted the historical significance of Independence Day and reminded the students that freedom comes with responsibility. She encouraged them to become disciplined, responsible and compassionate citizens who would contribute positively to the progress and development of the nation.

Continuing the school's cherished tradition, students and staff members whose birthdays fell around the occasion were invited to the stage and blessed with tikka. This warm gesture added a personal and joyful touch to the celebration and strengthened the sense of togetherness within the school community.

The celebration was further enriched by a colourful cultural programme presented by the students of the Vidyalaya. The students showcased their talents through various performances reflecting patriotism, Indian culture, unity and national pride. Their enthusiastic participation added vibrancy and excitement to the programme, while also providing them with an opportunity to express their love and respect for the motherland through music, dance and other cultural presentations.

A noteworthy part of the programme was the speech delivered by Sneha Joydhar, a student of Class XII. Through her speech, she highlighted the significance of Independence Day and paid tribute to the immense sacrifices made by the freedom fighters who dedicated their lives to securing India's independence. Her words served as an inspiration to the students and encouraged them to value the freedom they enjoy today.

The Chief Guest, Shri Prakash Adhikari, then addressed the gathering. In his speech, he emphasised the importance of patriotism, national unity, social responsibility and responsible citizenship. He encouraged the students to uphold the values of discipline, integrity and service and to play an active role in building a stronger, progressive and harmonious nation. His inspiring words motivated the students and added greater significance to the occasion.

As a token of appreciation and gratitude, the Principal presented a memento to the Chief Guest. The gesture acknowledged his valuable presence and inspiring contribution to the Independence Day celebration.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Menoka Paik Ma’am. She expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest, the Principal, teachers, students, non-teaching staff and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme. She also acknowledged the collective efforts of the school community in making the celebration memorable and meaningful.

The gathering then dispersed after refreshments were served. The celebration witnessed the participation of 536 students, 35 teaching staff members and 8 non-teaching staff members, making it a significant and memorable occasion for the entire school community.

Overall, the 80th Independence Day celebration at Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya, Port Mout, was a meaningful, joyful and inspiring occasion. Thef programme successfully brought together the entire school community in a spirit of patriotism, unity and national pride. The celebration not only commemorated India's journey as a free nation but also reminded the students of the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and the responsibilities that come with being responsible citizens of the country.
