Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya,Port Mout

An earthquake mock drill was successfully conducted on 24 April 2026 at Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya, Port Mout with the objective of enhancing awareness and preparedness among students and staff in the event of an earthquake.

The program commenced with an awareness session at 9:00 a.m., during which students were educated about earthquake safety measures, potential risks, and appropriate responses during seismic activity. Special emphasis was placed on the internationally recommended safety technique, “Drop, Cover, and Hold,” which helps minimize injury during tremors. The session aimed to build confidence among students and ensure they understood the importance of staying calm and acting responsibly during emergencies.

Following the awareness session, the mock drill was carried out in a systematic and disciplined manner. Upon hearing the emergency signal, students immediately practiced the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” technique inside their classrooms. After the simulated shaking stopped, they proceeded to evacuate the building in an orderly manner, following designated evacuation routes under the guidance of their teachers.

The students assembled at the pre-determined safe zone within the school premises. Attendance was quickly verified to ensure that all students had evacuated safely. Throughout the exercise, students demonstrated alertness, cooperation, and a clearf understanding of the safety procedures.

The entire drill was conducted under the supervision of the Teacher-in-Charge, who ensured that all safety protocols were followed and that the evacuation process was smooth and disciplined. Teachers and staff played an active role in guiding students, maintaining order, and reinforcing safety instructions.

The mock drill proved to be highly effective in reinforcing emergency preparedness among students. It

not only enhanced their awareness but also instilled a sense of responsibility and readiness to respond appropriately in real-life situations. The school management appreciated the active participation of students and staff and emphasized the importance of conducting such drills regularly to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
