NATIONAL SPORTS DAY
On 29th August 2025, Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya, Port Mout celebrated National Sports Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand. The celebration aimed to honour his remarkable contribution to Indian sports and to promote the spirit of sportsmanship among students.
The day commenced with a special morning assembly, anchored by teacher Smti. Seema (Physical education teacher), who set a lively and respectful tone for the day. The HOI of the school, teachers and Students, offered a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, paying homage to his enduring legacy.
Shri Devraj, one of the Physical education teachers, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of National Sports Day, emphasizing the values of discipline, dedication, and teamwork that sports in still in young minds.
As a mark of respect and commitment, Gayatri Kishen of class XI led the National Sports Day pledge, which was enthusiastically repeated by all present over there.
To further enrich the event, Lavanya and Shreya Das, both students of Class XI, delivered an inspiring speech on the life and achievements of Major Dhyan Chand. Their words shed light on his sportsmanship, discipline, and his pivotal role in bringing glory to Indian hockey on the international stage.
The celebration concluded with a highly spirited volleyball match between the students of Class IX and Class XI, which added excitement and energy to the day. The total number of 626 students, 32 teachers and a non-teaching staff participated in the celebration.
Overall, the celebration was a resounding success, instilling enthusiasm, unity, and a love for sports among the students and staff alike. The event not only honoured a great sporting legend but also reinforced the importance of physical fitness and teamwork in students’ life.
